A simple, repeatable way to check what an AI agent hands you before you rely on it, plus the review tools the big platforms say they offer.
So your agent finished a task. Is it right? Here's the thing: an agent can sound sure of itself and still be wrong. So checking its work isn't extra. It's part of the job.
The good news? You don't need to be technical. You just need a simple routine. Here's one.
First, check the facts. Pick two or three specific details, like a name, a number, or a date, and confirm them against the original source. Next, check that it did what you asked. Compare the result to your instructions, line by line. Did it skip a step? Add something you didn't ask for? Then, check the tone. Would you be comfortable sending this with your name on it? And last, check what it touched. Look at the run history and make sure it only used the apps and data it was supposed to.
A few warning signs to watch for:
- Exact numbers or quotes with no source.
- Answers to questions your docs don't actually cover.
- Confident wording on something it should have flagged as unsure.
- Steps in the run history you didn't expect.
The tools themselves have help built in. Here's what the makers say (we checked each page on Oct 28, 2026 or Oct 27, 2026):
- Zapier: every AI step run lands in Zap History, with the tools called, inputs and outputs, and the tasks used.
- Make: a Reasoning panel shows every decision step by step.
- Voiceflow: transcripts, agent logs that explain every action, and tests and simulations to catch problems before customers do.
- Dify: logs, feedback, and usage data to see what happened.
- OpenAI Agents SDK: built-in tracing to see and debug what happened, plus guardrails that check inputs and outputs.
- Salesforce Agentforce: you can see an agent's plan and test its responses in Agent Builder.
How often should you check? At the start, check everything. Once a task has run cleanly for a while, you can spot-check instead, say a few runs a week. But keep checking anything that sends, spends, or can't be undone. Every time.
Of course, your mileage may vary. But a five-minute check beats a five-hour cleanup.
