Getting Your Business Facts Ready for AI Shopping Agents

For: Marketing · Difficulty: Beginner

The problem: A customer asks their AI agent, "Can I return this candle if it arrives broken?" The agent can't find your return policy, so it recommends another shop.

What you end up with: One clear, up-to-date page of business facts (returns, shipping, hours, gift options, and FAQs) that people and AI agents can both read, plus matching details everywhere you sell.

What you'll need

Your current policies, shipping rules, hours, and the questions customers ask most.

Getting set up

Where do shoppers, and their AI agents, look for your details? More customers are asking agents to shop and book for them. Shopify says its new knowledge base, at Sales channels > Agentic, lets merchants review and publish the facts agents get about their store, like return windows, shipping destinations, and gift services. Meta says Muse can understand what you sell and what customers keep asking you about. The simple idea: write your facts once, clearly, and keep them the same everywhere. Example: a small soap shop sells on Shopify and at two craft fairs a month. The owner lists her facts: 30-day returns on unopened items, free shipping over $50, gift wrap for $4, ships to the US and Canada. She asks AI to turn her messy policy pages into one clear FAQ, reviews it, updates her store and Google Business Profile, and publishes the same facts in Shopify's knowledge base. Step by step

  1. Gather every policy: returns, shipping, payment, hours, gift options.
  2. List the ten questions customers ask most.
  3. Ask the AI to turn it into a clear, short FAQ.
  4. Check every fact. Fix anything out of date.
  5. Publish it on your website, and in tools like Shopify's knowledge base if you use them.
  6. Make your hours and policies match on every listing and app.
  7. Set a reminder to review it each season.

A prompt to start with

Here's a prompt to start with. Adjust it to fit your tool. "Here are my store policies and the questions customers ask most: [paste]. Write a clear FAQ with short, direct answers. Keep every number, date, and rule exactly as written. Mark anything that seems to conflict, and don't invent policies I didn't include."

What you'll get

A clear FAQ and one set of business facts you can paste anywhere. Time it takes: about an hour the first time, and 15 minutes each season. Sample FAQ answer (made up): "Can I return an item? Yes. Unopened items can be returned within 30 days. Email us with your order number, and we'll send a return label."

If something goes wrong

If the AI flags conflicts, like two different return windows, decide which is right and fix both places. If an app shows old hours, update it there directly. Some apps take a day or two to refresh.

Keep in mind

AI agents read many sources, so you can't control everything they say. Clear facts in the places you manage give them the best chance of getting it right. Make it a habit: update your facts the same day a policy changes.
