How to Choose Your First AI Agent Tool

Level: Beginner · Path: Fundamentals

Three simple questions to narrow down your first AI agent tool, with a short list of options from the tools we cover, matched to where you already work.

There are a lot of AI agent tools out there. So how do you pick your first one? Here's the thing: the best first tool is usually the one that fits where you already work.

Ask yourself three questions: First, where does my work already live? If you're all-in on Gmail and Google Docs, or Outlook and Word, or Notion, or HubSpot, start with the AI that's built into that. There's less to set up and less to learn. Next, what's the one job I want help with? Pick one task, like customer questions, email, or follow-ups. The right tool depends on the job. And last, what's my budget? Several tools offer free plans or free trials. Start there before you commit.

Here's a short list, by where you work. Each one has its own page in our Agents section, with official details and pricing:

And by job:

  • Website customer questions: Zapier Chatbots or Tidio Lyro.
  • Connecting lots of apps: Zapier or Make.
  • An all-around assistant: Lindy or Grok Bot.
  • Building a simple app or site: Replit Agent.

A few tips before you sign up:

  • Start with a free plan or trial: test it on one real task.
  • Check the pricing units: per seat, per credit, or per conversation can add up differently.
  • Check what it can access: connect only what it needs.
  • Give it two weeks: then decide if it's saving you time.

Remember, your first tool doesn't have to be your forever tool. Pick one, learn the basics, and you'll know much better what you need next.
