Vendor Comparison Research with AI Agents

For: Operations · Difficulty: Beginner

The problem: You need a new tool, supplier, or service provider. Comparing options means 20 open tabs, pricing pages that hide the real cost, and a decision you keep putting off.

What you end up with: A simple side-by-side comparison of your top options, with prices and key features, a link for every fact, and clear notes on anything that couldn't be confirmed.

What you'll need

A short list of what you need (your must-haves and nice-to-haves), your budget, and three to five options to compare, or a request for the agent to suggest some.

Getting set up

Comparing vendors and drowning in browser tabs? Here's how to tackle it, based on each tool's official docs. First, pick a tool. Gumloop says its agents can produce spreadsheets and documents and has a secure cloud browser for each agent. Dust lists account research among its sales uses. Make lets you build agents on a visual canvas. Next, write your must-haves in plain words. Then, decide on the columns you want, like price, key features, contract terms, and support. And last, treat the table as research, not a decision. You make the call.

Step by step

  1. Give the agent your needs, your budget, and the options to compare.
  2. Ask it to check each option's own website for pricing and features.
  3. Have it fill in a table with your columns, and a link for every fact.
  4. Ask it to mark anything it couldn't confirm as unknown.
  5. Have it note which options miss a must-have.
  6. Review the table and click through the links for your top two.
  7. Contact your top picks yourself to confirm pricing before you decide.

A prompt to start with

Copy this prompt, then make it your own. "Compare these options for [need]: [list]. Using each company's own website, make a table with: price, key features, contract terms, support, and whether it meets each of my must-haves (below). Put a link next to every fact. If a price or feature isn't listed, write 'unknown.' Don't guess, and don't contact any vendors."

What you'll get

A comparison table with a link for every fact, 'unknown' where info wasn't listed, and a short note on which options miss a must-have.

If something goes wrong

If prices look wrong, check whether the page shows monthly or yearly billing. If it fills gaps with guesses, remind it to write 'unknown.' If there are too many options, cut the list to your top five first.

Keep in mind

Pricing pages change often and sometimes leave things out, so always confirm the final price with the vendor. The table helps you decide. It doesn't decide for you.
