The plain-English overview
Spending hours comparing suppliers across a dozen browser tabs? Comet is a web browser with an AI assistant built in. Perplexity's Help Center and blog cover the basics. Here they are, as of Oct 28, 2026.
What Perplexity lists:
- Comet Assistant: Perplexity says it browses with you, for research, meetings, shopping, and more, with an assistant in every new tab.
- Ask and Summarize buttons: get context about an open page, or a short version of a long one.
- Browser commands: manage tabs in plain language.
- Gmail connector: ask questions about your email and calendar.
- Familiar browser: it's built on Chromium, with bookmarks, page translation, built-in ad blocking, and support for most Chrome extensions.
- Where it runs: Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android.
Who it's for: owners who do a lot of web research, like comparing suppliers, prices, or travel.
Good to know: double-check prices and facts on the original site before you buy or book.
Picture this: you run a small print shop and need a new supplier for recycled card stock. You open five supplier sites in Comet and ask the assistant to compare minimum order, price per sheet, and shipping time in one table. Then you check the two best options on their own sites before you order. (Our illustration of the Ask and Summarize tools Perplexity describes.)
Questions to ask before you start:
- Which accounts will you connect? Perplexity lists a Gmail connector. Connect it only if email and calendar questions would really help.
- Do you rely on Chrome extensions? Perplexity says Comet supports most of them, so test the ones you use for work.
- Who else uses the computer? Sign out of personal accounts on a shared shop computer.
Try it this week: 1. Use Summarize on long supplier terms or policy pages. 2. Ask for one comparison table a day. 3. Confirm every price on the original site before you buy.
