Shopify's Fall '26 Edition: Your Store Inside AI Agents

Oct 28, 2026

On October 28, 2026, Shopify's Fall '26 Edition added connectors that let merchants manage their store from nine AI agents, a shopping skill called shop.md, Shop Pay inside personal agents, and a knowledge base for the facts agents share about your store.

Do your customers ask ChatGPT or another AI agent what to buy? Shopify's Fall '26 Edition is built around that shift. Shopify's official edition page lays it out, and here's what we read on Oct 28, 2026.

For running your store:

  • Connectors for AI agents: Shopify says merchants can connect Shopify to the AI agents they already use to manage products, inventory, orders, and performance. The list has nine agents: ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Duet, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, Grok, Grok Bot, Muse, and Perplexity.
  • From idea to store: Shopify says aspiring entrepreneurs can turn an idea into a storefront preview in the same chat.
  • Canvas: see your whole store on one canvas and edit it with Sidekick. Shopify lists Canvas in early access.

For reaching shoppers:

  • shop.md: a skill that turns an AI agent into a personal shopper. Shopify says buyers point ChatGPT, Claude, or another agent to shop.md, and it can search more than a billion products, check out with Shop Pay, and track orders.
  • Shop Pay in personal agents: Shop Pay checkout inside personal AI agents, starting with Muse from Meta, Claude Duet, and Instinct.
  • Catalog eligibility: a view in your admin that shows whether your store is eligible for Shopify Catalog, which Shopify says AI agents use for product information, with links to fixes.
  • Knowledge base: a new page at Sales channels > Agentic where you review and publish the facts agents get about your store, like return windows, shipping destinations, and gift services. Shopify drafts the facts from your storefront and suggests updates for you to review.

Who should pay attention: every Shopify merchant, especially small shops that get customers from search and social.

A small-business example: a tea shop on Shopify opens the new knowledge base, finds Shopify's draft says "returns within 14 days," and corrects it to 30 days to match her policy. She checks Catalog eligibility, fixes two products with missing details, and connects Shopify to the AI assistant she already uses to ask for a weekly sales summary. (Our illustration of what Shopify describes.)

Questions to ask yourself:

  • Are your return, shipping, and gift facts correct in the knowledge base?
  • Is your store eligible for Shopify Catalog, and if not, what's in the way?
  • Which AI agent do you already use, and what would you ask it about your store first?

Plain-English terms:

  • Agentic commerce: shopping done with help from AI agents.
  • Connector: a link between your store and an AI agent.
  • Shop Pay: Shopify's checkout for buyers.

How to get ready:

  • Review your store facts in the knowledge base first.
  • Fix anything Catalog eligibility flags.
  • Connect one AI agent, and start with questions before changes.
