Pricing

Subscription: From Google's official pages (Oct 28, 2026): Spark is for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, ages 18 and older, in select countries, plus select business users. Google's plan page lists AI Pro at $19.99 a month and AI Ultra starting at $99.99 a month in the US. Google's help center says tasks aren't available in the EEA, Nigeria, Switzerland, or the UK for now.

Getting set up

According to Google: subscribe to Google AI Pro or Ultra, sign in with a personal Google Account, opt in to Personal Intelligence, and turn on the app connections you want in settings.

The plain-English overview

Want something to keep working on your to-do list after you close the laptop? Google says that's what Gemini Spark does. Google's product page and help center lay it out like this, as of Oct 28, 2026.

What Spark does:

  • Works in the background: Google says you give it a task and it works 24/7, even if your phone and laptop are turned off. It's designed to check with you before taking major actions.
  • Your Google apps: it can connect with Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, YouTube, and Google Maps. Google says these connections are off by default.
  • Tasks, skills, and schedules: a task is the goal, a skill is how you like something done, and a schedule runs a task at a set time or when something happens, like a flight delay.
  • More apps: Google's help center says you can connect other apps using their MCP server URLs.

A name change: Google's help center says that after testing, it renamed Spark to Task in the Gemini app. You'll find it in the Chat and Task toggle next to the prompt box.

Who it's for: owners on Google AI Pro or Ultra who live in Gmail and Calendar and want help with multi-step errands and projects.

Good to know: Google's help center says tasks need a personal Google Account for now, not a work or school one. Check anything it sends before it goes to a customer.

Picture this: you run a two-person catering business. On Sunday night you give Spark one task: "Every weekday at 7 a.m., check my inbox for new catering inquiries, list the date, headcount, and budget for each, and add a tentative hold to my calendar." You wake up to a short list and decide which ones to quote. (This is our illustration of how tasks and schedules fit together, not a test we ran.)

Questions to ask before you start:

  • Which Google apps does this task really need? Connect only those, since Google says connections start off.
  • What should it never do on its own? Write that into the task, like "draft replies, don't send them."
  • Personal or work account? Google's help center says tasks need a personal Google Account for now, so think about which business details you're comfortable keeping in a personal account.

Try it this week: 1. Start with one low-stakes task, like a weekly summary of supplier emails. 2. Read every result for a week. 3. Add a schedule only after the results look right.
