Dots are OpenAI's always-on agents in ChatGPT. Each dot has its own cloud computer and browser, works with the apps you connect, keeps making progress between conversations, and asks you for decisions that need your judgment.

The plain-English overview
Want an assistant that keeps working on your projects while you're busy with customers? That's what OpenAI says dots are for. OpenAI introduced dots on Sep 29, 2026. Here's what its official pages say, as of Oct 28, 2026.
What a dot is:
- Always on: an agent in ChatGPT that keeps making progress between conversations, and turns to you for decisions that need your judgment.
- Its own computer: OpenAI says each dot has its own cloud computer and browser, and you can open it to inspect its work.
- Your apps: it works across the apps you connect. OpenAI says its plugins connect to over 4,000 apps.
- Where you reach it: ChatGPT on desktop, web, and mobile, plus Slack and Teams. You can also call it. Texting is a limited beta for some Pro users in the US.
- Memory: it starts with context from ChatGPT memory and learns how you like to work.
You stay in charge:
- Custom rules: for some actions, you choose take action without asking, take action if pre-approved, ask before taking action, or hand off to you.
- Your computer is optional: access to your own computer starts turned off.
- Pause or reset: you can pause your dot anytime. Reset deletes it, along with its conversations, memories, and scheduled tasks.
Who it's for: owners on ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium who want ongoing help with projects like presentations, content, and follow-ups.
Good to know: OpenAI says your dot can make mistakes, even when following your rules, so review its work before relying on it.
