Idea or playbook

Local Search Tune-Up Service

Note: Any money examples here are hypothetical. We're not promising anyone will earn anything.

An idea for a service: keep local businesses' listings, reviews, and website basics in shape, with agents doing the research and you doing the fixing.

The idea

Help local businesses keep their online presence in good shape, like business listings, reviews, and website basics, with AI agents doing the research and you doing the fixing and explaining.

Who it's for

Local service businesses and shops, like plumbers, salons, dentists, and restaurants, that know people search for them online but don't have time to keep up.

The problem you solve

Their hours are wrong somewhere, reviews go unanswered, and their website hasn't been touched in years. They don't know what's broken or where to start.

How you help

A monthly check-up service. You use an agent tool to gather the facts. For example, Gumloop lists Google Maps and Google Search Console connections, plus SEO research and audit agents. Then you turn what it finds into a short, plain-English to-do list and handle the fixes the owner approves.

How it works, step by step

Here's how it could work, step by step (it's an outline, not a case study):

  1. Get the owner's OK and access to their listings and website tools.
  2. Have an agent gather the basics: business info across listings, recent reviews, and simple website checks.
  3. Check what it found yourself, and list what's wrong or missing.
  4. Send the owner a one-page to-do list in plain English.
  5. Fix the items they approve, and draft review replies for them to approve.
  6. Repeat monthly, and show what changed.

Ways to get paid

Common ways to charge (just examples, not our earnings): a one-time setup audit, then a monthly check-up fee. We're not quoting dollar amounts as market rates. Any numbers you use are hypothetical until you test them in your own market. Never promise rankings or a set number of new customers.

What you need to get started

You'll want a basic understanding of local search and business listings, comfort with at least one agent or automation tool, and a simple agreement covering access and who approves each change.

Keeping it running

Check everything the agent finds before you act on it, keep the owner approving every public change and review reply, and keep an eye on each tool's pricing and features, since these change.

Things to watch out for

Watch out for clients expecting guaranteed rankings, review replies that sound robotic, and listing changes made without the owner's OK. Keep it honest, keep it simple, and keep the owner in charge.
