Grok Bot's Computer, Explained

Checked against xAI's official docs on Oct 28, 2026

Ever wondered where Grok Bot actually does its work? Each Bot uses its own computer in the cloud, with a browser it can drive like you would. Here's what xAI's changelog says about it, checked on Oct 28, 2026.

Watching, or taking over

Sleep, wake, and updates

Per the changelog, when the Bot's computer is asleep, clicking the Computer is asleep preview wakes it in place, and a voice call from your phone wakes it too. Updating or recreating the computer keeps your files and logins, while installed apps and packages are removed. The Bot's browser keeps site logins after its last window closes.

Files and disk space

xAI says when a Bot's computer runs low on disk, the Bot tells you once, names the biggest files, and deletes them only if you agree.

Your own computer

Good habits: our suggestions

These are our ideas, not xAI's.

  1. Watch the Bot's first few tasks on a new website before you leave it to work alone.
  2. Keep Ask every time on for your own computer until you trust the setup.
  3. Save logins in the Vault instead of typing them into chat.
  4. Read our security and privacy guide before connecting work accounts.
