Square's new Square Kiosk (announced October 14, 2026) uses an AI voice layer that knows the seller's menu, answers questions, and suggests add-ons. It's $1,999 with a Square Plus or Premium subscription, plus $99 a month per device.
Running a busy counter and wondering whether a kiosk could take some of the rush? Square announced a new AI-powered kiosk on October 14, 2026. Here's what Square's press release says, as we read it on Oct 28, 2026.
What it does. Square says Square Kiosk uses an agentic, conversational voice layer that understands a seller's menu and listens and responds in real time. Customers can ask menu questions, get suggestions, request changes, and work through substitutions, moving between voice and touch.
Menu questions and upsells. Square says it can answer questions like allergy information or vegetarian options, and suggest items and add-ons based on what's popular at that location and time of day.
The hardware. Square lists a 21.5-inch touchscreen, presence detection that welcomes diners, optional check-in to a Square Loyalty account, and built-in payments and barcode scanning, including gift cards.
The price. Square says Square Kiosk is $1,999 with a Square Plus or Premium subscription, plus a $99 monthly software fee per device. Its footnote says the price includes a counter stand, and that Square Plus is $49 per location per month and Premium is $149.
What this means for you: First, it's aimed at quick-service restaurants with busy rush hours, so it may be more than a small café needs. Next, if you try it, check how it answers allergy questions, and make sure your menu details are accurate. Then, keep a person nearby for customers who'd rather talk to someone.
