Shopify's Late-October AI Updates: Sidekick, Autopilot, and More

Oct 28, 2026

The small-business highlights from Shopify's changelog for October 26 to 28, 2026: Sidekick storefront suggestions tested with AI shoppers, Sidekick web search, Campaign Autopilot channels, WhatsApp automations, and auto-synced translations.

Selling on Shopify and wondering what's new this week? Shopify posts every change on its official changelog. Here are the AI items most useful to small shops, from the entries we read on Oct 28, 2026.

Sidekick tests changes before you make them (October 28). Shopify says Sidekick can stage storefront changes in a draft, test them with AI-simulated shoppers (SimGym), then show you the recommendation to review.

Sidekick looks wider (October 28). Shopify says Sidekick suggestions can now use web search alongside your store context, and can use data from installed apps that support Sidekick app extensions.

Campaign Autopilot adds channels (October 28). Shopify says Campaign Autopilot uses AI to run marketing on your behalf across new channels like Microsoft Advertising and Snapchat, with X Ads coming soon, and you can review SEO suggestions there.

WhatsApp automations (October 28). In Shopify Messaging, you can automatically send WhatsApp messages to recover abandoned carts and checkouts.

Auto-synced translations (October 27). For US and Canada merchants, Translate & Adapt can translate new and updated content automatically each week, for up to 8 languages.

Safer automations (October 28). Shopify Flow now checks each staff member's admin permissions before they test or turn on a workflow.

What this means for you: First, review anything Sidekick or Autopilot suggests before it goes live, especially ad spend. Next, check that automated WhatsApp messages follow messaging consent rules where your customers are. Then, have a fluent speaker spot-check auto-translated pages.
